Collaborative Pianist

Liezl-Marét Jacobs has established herself as musician in a number of fields over the past 20 years. She is one of the leading chamber musicians and accompanists in South Africa, presents workshops to music teachers, and has given master classes for pianists at elementary to advanced levels.

She obtained her B.Mus, B.Mus(Hon) and M.Mus degrees cum laude under the guidance of Philip Levy, Catharina Struthers and Albie van Schalkwyk. She also obtained her D.Mus(UCT) under the guidance of John Antoniades.

She started her teaching career at the University of Cape Town in 1996 and was a permanent staff member at the University of Stellenbosch from 2002 till 2004. She lectured full-time at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban from 2005 till 2013.

Liezl-Marét is often invited to adjudicate eisteddfods and she is an examiner for UNISA music examinations. She makes regular appearances as a speaker at conferences, workshops and symposiums.

At present, Liezl-Marét is running a private studio in Durban, teaching piano to students of all ages. She focuses on experimenting and developing new ideas in connection with teaching methods. After years of teaching Piano and Instrumental Pedagogy at various universities, she started to present Piano Teacher workshops across the country.

Between 2014-17 she presented in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, East-London, Durban, Harrismith, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Tzaneen, Nelspruit, Witrivier, various places in Eastern Cape, University of Pretoria, Johannesburg and Shoshanguwe in Pretoria.

Liezl-Marét also regularly visits the USA to expand her knowledge and to learn as much as possible in the field of piano playing and pedagogy. It is her passion to share the newly-gained knowledge with teachers in South Africa. At present she is presenting an online-course on Music Reading Skills to music teachers from all over the world.
