Martin Fahlenbock was a flutist with Ensemble Recherche from 1991 to 2019, and from 2006 to 2016 he was also a member of the ensemble's management team. His artistic work during this time is documented by worldwide concert appearances and more than 50 CDs, many of which have won awards. Prior to this, he played as "Associate Principal Flutist" in the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra (1987–1992), as a regular guest "Principal Flutist" with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra (1985–1987), and with Ensemble Modern Frankfurt. As a soloist, he performed with, among others, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Freiburg and Baden-Baden, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
Martin Fahlenbock is a profound expert in the chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries, and as such, he regularly serves as a jury member in internationally advertised composition competitions. He conducts masterclasses worldwide, both for performers and for composers, focusing on the interpretation and performance of contemporary music. From its founding in 2003 until 2014, Martin Fahlenbock was a board member jointly responsible for the content and execution of the Ensemble Academy Freiburg, held annually by Ensemble Recherche and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. From 2014 to 2024, Martin Fahlenbock was a professor of flute, chamber music, and "Interpretation of Contemporary Music" at the Bern University of the Arts.
