Creative Contemporary Workshop

Would you be involved in composing new modern music? Would you try reading music that doesn't look like sheet music at first glance? Would you like to join an ensemble that could include any combination of instruments? Do you think the essence of making music is finding freedom within a framework? If so, or if you are simply curious, sign up for the Creative Contemporary Workshop!

In the second half of the 20th century, a form of collaborative music-making emerged, mainly under the influence of American minimalist composers, which is characterized by a loose apparatus of performance and instrumentation, and often does not require any professional instrumental knowledge or proficiency in contemporary musical practice. In other words, almost anyone can participate in the performance of this music. In fact, participation in this case is more than just playing a solo, each player becomes in a sense a co-composer of the music! In these pieces, the composers give the performers freedom in different ways and degrees: there are graphic scores to be deciphered, live compositions guided by signs, musical board games.

Through the pieces of this repertoire, participants will experience the creative music-making together, led by Péter Tornyai, composer, chamber musician, teacher at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and founding member of several contemporary music ensembles. The course, which will end with a concert, is open to all instruments.
