Collaborative Pianist
Romanian pianist Daniel Dascălu (b. 1991) has performed solo recitals in his own country, in Bucharest, Iași, Brașov, Cluj, Constanța, Sibiu, and played as a soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestras of Craiova, Bacău, Botoșani, as well as at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, alongside the Concerto orchestra of the National University of Music in Bucharest. Internationally he has performed in several European cities, most notably in Vienna, at the Arnold Schönberg Center, the Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, and the University Of Music and Performing Arts, at Salzburg’s Mozarteum University, in Munich at the Philharmonie am Gasteig, in Brescia, Split, Dresden.
Passionate about chamber music, Daniel has played in chamber ensembles at the Romanian Athenaeum, the Suțu Palace in Bucharest and also in Iași, at the Classix International Festival, as well as in Sweden, at the Aurora Music Festival in Mariestad, and Greece, at the International Kalamata Music Days.
In 2022 Daniel was invited as a collaborative pianist at the Crescendo Summer Institute in Tokaj, Hungary and at the George Enescu International Violin Competition in Bucharest, Romania.
Daniel has won several prizes at international and national competitions, among which the Second Prize at the Suzana Szörenyi International Competition in 2016, section piano four-hands, and Third Prize at the same competition in 2017, lied section, First Prize at the Mhail Jora National Competition in 2014, Honorable Mention at the 2021 Vigo International Piano Competition.
Daniel is alumnus of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he studied Piano Performance with prof. Martin Hughes. He is currently following a postgraduate program in Chamber Music with prof. Stefan Mendl. Previously, he had also completed Bachelor and Master studies at the University of Music in Bucharest with prof. Dana Borșan.
In February 2021 Daniel completed his PhD studies at the University of Music in Bucharest with highest distinction under the co-ordination of prof. Borșan, with a thesis on Schubert’s piano sonatas.
Daniel has worked with renowned pianists like Klaus Hellwig, Peter Donohoe, Henri Sigfridsson, Roberto Plano, Andreas Frölich.
Since 2021 Daniel holds a teaching position as Lecturer for collaborative piano at the National University of Music in Bucharest.
